Recipient Highlight: Eliza Miles

Eliza Miles and her sister live with their grandmother, Keesha Cambell, who is their full-time legal guardian. At only three weeks old, Eliza’s father purposely dropped her, causing severe damage. She has been diagnosed with cerebral palsy, severe brain damage, asthma, and epilepsy, and she also has a feeding tube and is legally blind. Her father is currently serving 12 years in prison for his abuse, and Eliza’s mother is incapable of caring for her and her sister.

A Life without a Wheelchair Van

In January of 2023, thieves attempted to steal Keesha’s car, causing great damage to the extent of it being undrivable, leaving her without a vehicle. Even with the vehicle she had, it was not ideal to get Eliza in and out of the car. Eliza has twelve different specialists for her many conditions and sees each of them at least once or twice a week. The process of getting into the car before going anywhere is an uneasy task. Keesha would first have to lift Eliza out of her wheelchair and into her car seat, then disassemble the wheelchair before putting it into the trunk. As you can imagine, lifting Eliza in and out of her wheelchair puts a strain on Keesha’s back and puts them both in an unsafe position. As Eliza continues to grow, she will soon need a larger wheelchair that cannot be disassembled or folded, making it impossible to transport her anywhere without a wheelchair-accessible van.

Meeting the Need

On May 4th, 2023, at the 7th annual All Things Possible charity golf tournament, Eliza and Keesha were gifted a wheelchair-accessible van! Keesha was brought to tears by the generosity of the staff and donors who made this giveaway possible. This van has given them the freedom to easily attend doctors’ visits or see friends or family. To say it has changed their lives is a massive understatement. After the reveal, Keesha gave the following statement, “Y’all are a blessing. Y’all don’t even know what y’all do. Not a lot of people know about you, but they need to know because y’all are a big support and a blessing.”

How You Can Get Involved

This giveaway was made possible because of the generosity of people who want to be a part of something bigger than themselves and see lives changed in the most miraculous ways. Lisa Sexton, the founder of All Things Possible, saw a need to help families get wheelchair-accessible vans, and the organization has since changed the lives of many families by gifting them safe, reliable, and accessible transportation. Before All Things Possible was founded, no other organizations or government assistance programs were meeting this desperate need for the community. This giveaway to Eliza is one of over 30 wheelchair vans given to families in need since 2013. This might not seem like a lot, but the reality is a wheelchair-accessible van is costly, (currently over $40,000) and it takes a lot of $20, $50 or $100 donations to pay in full for a van. That being said, no amount given is too small, especially when it is helping such an incredible and life-changing need. If you want to get involved, please consider partnering with All Things Possible by sharing with your friends about this organization and donating to help change lives.

All Things Possible is also looking to expand its leadership team. If interested in joining the Board of Directors or a committee to focus on fundraising, marketing or event planning, please contact Lisa Sexton at Lisa@allthingspossible.org
