Highlighting a Recipient Family: Kinsley Nesbit

Kinsley Nesbit and her older sister Kaitlyn live with their retired grandmother, Cathy Nesbit. When Kinsley was a baby, her mother and grandmother noticed Kinsley’s eyes darting around a lot.  She was taken to a neurologist and was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy. Interested in a second opinion, Cathy took little Kinsley to different neurologist. Kinsley was then diagnosed with seizures and KCNQ2 gene mutation. The challenges are similar.

The Struggle of Living without a Wheelchair Van

When All Things Possible met Kinsley in 2020, she was just five years old, but she was unable to sit up by herself, feed herself, or even talk. She was and still is a joyful little girl who was always smiling, and she has always brought so much joy to her grandmother’s life on a daily basis. Her grandmother Cathy wanted to help Kinsley in any way she could, so she quickly began scheduling appointments with specialists, therapists, and other doctors who could help Kinsley.

By age 5, Kinsley was going to at least four therapy appointments each week, in addition to frequent neurology appointments. As she was getting older and bigger, Cathy began struggling with getting Kinsley into her car seat. Additionally, Kinsley’s wheelchair was too heavy for Cathy to lift into her car, so when they went to appointments, Cathy would bring her from the car in an umbrella stroller. This stroller served its purpose of transporting Kinsley, but it did not give her the support she needed to improve her posture and muscle tone, something her therapists wanted her to work on.

Cathy had reliable transportation but really needed a wheelchair-accessible van to protect both herself and Kinsley in their many travels during the week. It was important that Cathy didn’t have to lift Kinsley constantly into and out of her vehicle so that she remained uninjured and healthy to care for her granddaughters.

Meeting the Need

In December of 2020, All Things Possible was able to present Kinsley and Cathy with a Chrysler wheelchair van to help transport them to important appointments in a way that is safe for both of them. Cathy was excited and overwhelmed with gratitude when they received their van, and it was amazing to see Kinsley smiling from ear to ear as she was pushed in her wheelchair up the ramp and into their new van.

Partner with All Things Possible

This van giveaway was the ninth of ten vans we gifted in 2020, after we set a goal in May of 2019 to give a total of 10 vans in 18 months. We met that goal, and then exceeded it the following year by giving away a total of 10 vans in 2021. Unfortunately, with the economy being what it is in 2022, donations are down by nearly 40%, making us unable to change as many lives this year. But All Things Possible and the families we serve still have hope. Please help us make more dreams come true before the year is out. It is only with the help of generous donors that we can meet these goals and give the incredible gift of safe transportation to families in our area who are in need. To learn more about you can get involved or to donate now, get in touch with All Things Possible today.
